Liebfriede Bernstiel »For Her 100th«

November 2015 – March 2016

Special exhibition

Liebfriede Bernstiel (1915 - 1998) was one of the most important German ceramic artists of the second half of the 20th century.

In the 1930s she studied at the Hamburg State Art School and the Burg Giebichenstein/Halle School of Applied Arts. Between 1939 and 1946, Liebfriede Bernstiel learned and worked with Otto Lindig in the Dornburg/Saale Ceramic Workshop. In 1947 she returned to the Hamburg State Art School, first as an assistant to Gerhard Marcks and later to Otto Lindig. From 1955 she worked in her own workshop in Ahrensburg.

Her ceramics remained influenced by the principles of the Dornburg Bauhaus pottery throughout her life.

The accompanying catalogue to the exhibition is available for 5 euros.
